Outdoors
Rotherhithe is blessed with many green spaces around it. The areas of Lavender Pond Nature Reserve and Russia Dock Woodland have recently been improved and are a lovely spot to have a picnic. Next door is the Stave Hill Ecological Park with fantastic views over the Docklands and the Woodlands below. For the more adventurous visit the Surrey Docks Watersports where you can learn such activities as canoeing and windsurfing.
Lavender Pond Nature Reserve and Russia Dock Woodland
Created in 1980 in a former dock basin, this ecological area has recently been improved and developed and is a wonderful place to explore. It is a long narrow 34.5 acre expanse of woodland and still contains some surviving dock features including bollards, mooring chains and tracks.
Park facilities include picnic areas, informal games area and a duck pond full of hungry ducks.
Stave Hill Ecological Park
This is a beautiful ecological park that neighbours the Russia Dock Woodland. It's a place where you can relax in the peace and quiet whilst viewing the hustle and bustle of London. There are fantastic views over the Docklands from the top of the hill and you will find at the summit a relief map of the old docks in cast bronze by Michael Rizzello.
Surrey Docks Watersports Centre
The Watersport centre situated in the heart of Greenland Dock is in the unique position of being able to offer both inland and coastal/tidal sports which enables anyone from a novice to an experienced sailor, wind surfer, canoeist and power boater to be able to enjoy this centre.
There is a variety of courses on offer and recreational activities are available to those qualified in the required discipline.
