London Bridge for families

HMS BelfastStart your day at the Old Operating Theatre; this is England's sole surviving example of an early 19th century operating theatre. It has exhibits illustrating the history of surgery, herbal medicine and nursing at Guys and Old St Thomas's hospitals. The theatre has been restored with much of its original furniture including a 19th century operating table and provides an interesting insight into medicine before our time.

Next head over to the HMS Belfast which was saved for the nation in 1971 and has been moored in-between London and Tower Bridges since then. This former war ship which served in World War II has now become a floating museum. Enjoy exploring the nine decks of this cruiser from the quarterdeck up to the top bridge and then down to the boiler and engine rooms well below the waterline.

Head into Hays Galleria for lunch at Cafe Rouge or perhaps just grab a bagel on the move from the Bagel Factory.

Walk along the river till you reach the Tower Bridge Exhibition. Built in 1894 this is one of the most recognisable bridges in the world. Admission to the exhibition allows you the chance to walk across the high level walkways some 44 metres above the river at high tide. Once you have experienced the breathtaking views, head down to the Victorian Engine rooms to discover how the bridge works.
