How to Get to Bankside

On the south side of the river Thames, opposite the City of London and neighbouring the more well-known South Bank, Bankside's central location makes Bankside extremely accessible, served by major rail and underground connections at London Bridge and Waterloo. The Jubilee line and the river services provide a fast way of getting you to and from the West End, whilst you'll find buses offer a great alternative, with frequent services and lots of routes. But the best way to explore London is on foot!

Finding Your Way Around

Enjoy walking along Bankside's Medieval streets, and discover a new secret around every corner! Use our interactive map to locate attractions, hotels, bars, pubs and other venues.

Look up!

On the corners of junctions, beneath the street name signs you will find directional arrows to help you find your way to many exciting attractions. Along the riverside there are tall fluted columns that have direction ‘fingers'.

Look down!

You will find original directional signs on some pavements.

The personal touch...

Receive a warm welcome from the Southwark Young Pilgrims ‘Ambassadors for the Borough' who, based on Tooley Street outside London Bridge Station and outside Shakespeare's Globe during the summer months, will help you find your way around!

Alternatively, Better Bankside Rangers patrol the area and can provide useful information - look out for the pink T-shirts! The Rangers have been trained as London Ambassadors to provide a friendly on-street welcome for visitors, adding to the growing welcome network across the capital as we move towards the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
