How to Get to Bankside

By Tube

The Jubilee and Northern Line serve Southwark and London Bridge stations. The Northern Line (London Bridge branch) provides a direct link to Kings Cross, St Pancras and Euston stations. The modern extension of the Jubilee Line (Southwark and London Bridge) provides direct links to the West End.


For Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe: Blackfriars or Mansion House (Circle and District Line) and Southwark (Jubilee Line)

For Borough Market and Southwark Cathedral: London Bridge (Jubilee and Northern Lines and mainline services)

By Boat

The River Thames is the best way to arrive in Bankside; alighting at Bankside Pier the river is one of the most picturesque routes into the area.

Thames Clippers is the main river boat operator operating via Bankside Pier between the hours of 10.00am and 5.00pm, and from London Bridge Pier throughout the day and in the evening to destinations such as Embankment, Tower Hill, Canary Wharf, Greenwich and the O2.

The Tate Boat runs every 40 minutes between Tate Modern and Tate Britain, also stopping at the London Eye. It is also operated by Thames Clippers and tickets cost from £2.65. Tel: 020 7887 8888

By Bus

The RV1 bus service links Covent Garden, South Bank for the London Eye, Waterloo, Bankside for Tate Modern, London Bridge for the London Dungeon and Tower Hill for the Tower of London. The RV1 is fully integrated with Transport for London's fares system. Alternatively the 381 runs between Waterloo Station and Tower Bridge.

London Bridge bus station is also a major terminus for many other central London buses.

On Foot

Bankside is opposite St Paul's Cathedral and can be reached by walking across Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark Bridge or the Millennium Bridge.

A walkway running along by the side of the river is car free so walking from Tower Bridge in the east or the London Eye and the South Bank in the west offers an enjoyable stroll with many spectacular views passing some of London's main attractions.
