Architecture and Design

Start at Peckham Library at the top of Rye Lane. This building which opened in 2000 was designed by Alsop and Stormer and won the Stirling Prize for architecture in the same year. Its unusual shape and eye catching colours have made it very popular with the local community.

Walk down Chourmet Road and head to Bellenden Road, on this road you will find a variety of street furniture and art. These include bollards designed by Antony Gormley, street lighting and a barcode pavement by Tom Phillips and a 'We Love Peckham' mosaic. Further down the road you will come to the John Latham studio where this local artist has designed the front if his building to include an 8 foot PVC book relief, which can be seen jutting out the glass facade,

Then head to East Dulwich Road where you can find designs by Zandra Rhodes in her trademark striking colours including liqourice stick lamp-posts, twisty tree grilles and pink and black bollards. Stop in for refreshments in one of the cafes or restaurants here to take it all in.
