14 -16 December river walk outside Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe
Friday 14 11am - 9pm
Saturday 15 10am – 9pm
Sunday 16 10 am – 6pm
This will be the fifth annual Bankside Frost Fair, and it has now become London’s largest free winter event that celebrates when Londoners took to the ice as the River Thames froze over during the winter hundreds of years ago. This year is the 400 year anniversary since the first ever Frost Fair in 1607.
The Bankside Frost Fair will be opened by a spectacular lantern parade on the Friday evening and on Saturday there will be a display of livery men aboard their boats.
There are fun activities planned for the whole family including hug a husky, sing-a-long to festive music, watch as ice sculptors bring blocks of ice to life, enjoy a variety of street theatre, participate in workshops, warm up with food and mulled wine and of course do that last minute Christmas shopping at the winter market.
You could always extend your stay by visiting a number of attractions close by including Vinopolis, Southwark Cathedral, Golden Hinde, Menier Chocolate Factory. Bankside offers a range of accommodation walking distance from the Frost Fair.
The Bankside Frost Fair is supporting the Southwark Mayor’s charity appeal for The Damilola Taylor Trust
